After more than three years sitting empty, the former home of The Coop in Winter Park is finally serving food again, this time with a Colombian twist. Mecatos Bakery Cafe soft-opened October 6 at 610 W. Morse Boulevard, bringing Colombian coffee and baked goods to the corner of Morse Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue. The Coop, John Rivers Southern comfort food restaurant, closed in July 2023 after nearly a decade in business. As we reported last December, the locally grown chain is known for Colombian favorites like empanadas, buñuelos, pan de bono (cheese bread), and specialty coffee. According to Tasty Chomps, the new location is operated by Ana Rosabal, her parents Juan and Linda Rosabal, and partner Barbara Moreno. The café also have plans for an on-site coffee roaster and coffee cocktails. Hours: Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–6 p.m.; Saturday–Sunday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.
