Orange County launches first urban forest master plan to protect tree canopy

Orange County has begun developing its first Urban Forest Master Plan, a long-term strategy aimed at protecting and expanding the county’s tree canopy as the region continues to grow.The plan is expected to guide tree planting, protection and maintenance for more than 20 years, including standards for neighborhoods, roadways, business centers and other developed areas.County officials said the effort is part of the OC Loves Trees program, which launched on Arbor Day 2026.The program is intended to promote the benefits of trees, including shade, reduced heat, improved air quality and wildlife habitat.Residents invited to help shape planOrange County is asking residents to provide feedback through its Engage Orange community portal.Residents can submit ideas and questions, provide feedback and subscribe for updates about the planning process and future public involvement opportunities.“Trees are an important part of what makes Orange County a great place to live, work and visit,” Orange
