Viera Hospital opened a fifth-floor expansion, adding 20 inpatient beds and increasing the hospital’s total capacity from 98 to 118 beds. Hospital staff and leaders from the parent organization, Health First, marked the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the fifth floor on Oct. 5.The expansion converted previously shelled space on the hospital’s fifth floor to increase capacity in Brevard County. According to Health First, the project is part of a long-term strategy to accommodate population growth in Viera and central Brevard.The fifth-floor addition includes a 16-bed surgical unit designed for pre- and post-surgical patients. The unit supports the hospital’s surgical, orthopedic, and Joint Center programs.The expansion also expands maternal care options by adding four rooms dedicated to maternal recovery and postpartum care following delivery. Additionally, the project includes two triage bays in the Obstetrics Emergency Department.The project introduced smart room technology
